This impressive and unusual rural house, set in two and a half hectares of cork oak woodland was built in 2006 on the site of an existing ruin and incorporates some of the original stonework, including the remains of the bread oven. The unique design utilises traditional regional materials and features, with contemporary elements, to create a house which sits sympathetically in its environment.
The house, is built in an L shape, and includes three rooms which are currently used for a Bed and Breakfast business. The three good sized bedrooms, all en-suite, have direct access from outside. In addition, there is a small lounge for guests’ use, which, having internal access from the main house, may also be used as a guest bedroom for the family.
The main house comprises a large open-plan living room/dining room/kitchen, with a log burner inset into the wall; a hallway with bookshelves and office space; a small guest bathroom with shower; and a master bedroom suite, including fully equipped bathroom and dressing area.
Stairs from the kitchen area lead to a mezzanine floor, currently used for storage, which could alternatively be used as an office.
A patio with swimming pool and covered eating area offers stunning views over the surrounding countryside, stretching as far as the Monchique mountains.
The whole house has gas central heating and there is an air-conditioning unit in the master bedroom for cooling and heating.

Monte da Lagoa Seca is situated in an ecological reserve between the town of Ourique and the village of Santana da Serra. Despite its rural location, it is easily accessible both from the Algarve and from Lisbon.
